I always thought internet culture really started to thrive and be integrated into everyday life in the period of 2010-2015. I could honestly feel the pull towards "tumblr" aesthetics in August of last year. I thought it was odd that the fashion cycles seem to be moving so fast. The pandemic seemed to have brought alternative fashions back into the mainstream. Kids locked in our rooms.. we were bound to experiment. With how liberal we were back then, it's crazy to me that the social justice warrior kids in 2014 would be wearing the same thing as a trump voter in 2025.
I wanted to analyze why we are rapidly cycling through popular styles, and why the internet has everything to do with it. All while making a statement about girlhood, friendship, community, and loving each other extra hard through these times of economic uncertainty. These styles were not just "the look at the time" they were a statement about our economy and the push towards equal rights for women.
